Print Spooler Error

The print spooler is a windows program that manages the print queues and any problem to it can stop the printer from printing. Usually it displays in the form of “print spooler service error” “Operation could not be completed”, the “print spooler service is not running” and such errors. This can happen after you have installed Windows 10 updates. The errors can be due to corrupted print spooler service, so how do you reset print spooler?

There are multiple ways in which you can reset print spooler problems in Windows 10.

Method 1

You can run the Printer Trouble-shooter inbuilt in Windows 10, it helps you to detect latest printer drivers, update and fix them. This will fix any printer connectivity issues or will ensure that the services like Print Spooler are running fine. For this open the Windows 10 settings by clicking the Start Button. Now, select “update & security” and in it look for your printer model and select it. Run troubleshoot and after it restart windows to complete the troubleshooting action. In most cases this should reset print spooler service and there won’t be any problem with it.

Method 2

Sometimes print spooler error can be due to corrupted Print Spooler files and clearing them can resolve the issue. For this, first you have to know if there are any files in the print queue that can be found in the print spooler folder and if there are any clear them.

For this open the Run command box by tapping “Windows key + R”, type in “services.msc” and hit Enter. In the window that come next scroll down to “spooler services”, right click it and select “Stop”. Now using Windows File Explorer go to “C:\Windows\System 32\spool\PRINTERS” and if there are files in the folder, delete them all. Now, disconnect the printer from the computer and go to Windows services, scroll down to “spooler services” right click and select “Start” print spooler services.  Now, plug in your printer and try printing a document; the printer should print the document without much trouble.
