How To Fix Print Spooler Service Terminated Error?

Print Spooler Error

Print Spooler Error

A print spooler is a program of Microsoft Windows responsible for managing all print jobs that are sent to the printer or print server. So, you can use the program to manage print jobs or even delete a print job that is being processed. One of the printer related errors is ‘print spooler service terminated’. If this printer spooler error pops up, then you cannot finish your print job successfully. So, how do you fix it?

Step 1

When the ‘print spooler service terminated’ error comes when you are trying to take a print, you begin by starting the ‘Run’ command window and typing in ‘Services.msc’ and hitting Enter key. In the window that appears next, scroll down to ‘Print Spooler’ service, right-click on it and choose ‘Stop’.

Step 2

After the above step, you start by clearing all old print jobs that were stuck in the print queue. Occasionally, bad print jobs can cause the print spooler program to fail. For this, go to the C drive in my computer, select Windows folder, and open System 32 folder. Inside that scroll down to ‘spool’ folder, select Printers in it and delete all folders or files listed there. You could alternatively try by going to ‘Services.msc’ and start print spooler service to know whether it works. This may not work if any printer driver is corrupted.

Step 3

If there are any corrupt drivers then stop the print spooler service and manually remove corrupt drivers from the Windows registry.

Step 4

Now try to turn on the print spooler service and see if you can print. Before deleting the corrupt printer drivers from the registry, the program will stop whenever you try to access Printers and Faxes for printing. Now that you have removed the corrupt drivers, the print spooler service will be running again and you can start printing.

Step 5

Reset Print Spooler

The next step is to uninstall the printer software from your laptop or PC and the tools associated with it. You must always ensure to do complete uninstallation to avoid issues in the future.

Step 6

Now that you have removed the corrupt drivers form the registry and completely uninstalled the printer software, you can reinstall the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) printer software. Besides, you should download the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

This is how you reset print spooler error and start printing again. You should know that this is a common error like other Microsoft windows program errors.
